Four compulsory subjects:

  • English (Home Language)

  • Afrikaans (First Additional Language)*

  • Life Orientation

*Immigrant status – if you qualify for immigrant status, you do not need to do Afrikaans but will be required to choose a fourth elective subject

Choose three elective subjects from:

  • Physical Science

  • Life Science (Biology)

  • Geography

  • History

  • Visual Art

  • Business Studies

  • CAT (Computer Applications Technology)

  • Economics

Highly qualified, subject specialist teachers will give individual attention to students. Students will work at their own pace on the prepared lessons at any time throughout the day and engage with their teachers in tutorial sessions. A facilitator will check in with students once a week and get to know them personally, working with them to achieve their full potential.

Assessments will be done online, other than the final Grade 12 examinations which must be written at Bridge House or another IEB examination centre. Students will receive the assessment planner at the start of each term.

It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that the student has the necessary internet connectivity at home as well as a suitable computer, operating system, scanner and printer. Before enrolling your child, you will need the following resources:

Internet connectivity

  • We recommend a stable internet connection with a speed of at least 4 Megabits per second. This may be a fibre connection, or LTE if you are within a good coverage area. We recommend a monthly cap of at least 30 Gigabytes. Connection speed and reliability are essential to the success of this programme. This is particularly important over the exam season, and students must have an appropriate back-up plan. We suggest a 3G dongle or a data bundle on a cell phone as a back-up.

Hardware requirements

  • Windows 10 Laptop (i3 and upwards will be acceptable)

  • 500GB of HDD

  • 8GB of RAM

  • Camera, speakers and microphone are essential for online classes

  • MacBook with MacOS version 10.0.4 and later can be used

  • We would not recommend working on an iPad

  • A home scanner is required in order to scan and submit assignments, tests and exams (you can also use a good quality camera on your phone or mobile device to take a photo and upload)

Software requirements

  • Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge Internet Browser

  • Office 365 will be available free of charge as an “online” version

  • If you select Computer Applications Technology as a subject, you will be required to use Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2019 (which includes Microsoft Access) as these are required by the curriculum
